Frequency Domain Location of SSB – LTE 4G vs 5GNR

LTE 4G:

In LTE, Location of PSS, SSS and PBCH in frequency domain are fixed

PSS, SSS and PBCH spans central 6RB’s of carrier BW

5GNR:

In 5GNR, Location of SSB in frequency domain is not fixed

Location of the SSB on the CBW is determined by information provided by higher layer in RRC ReConfig message

Parameters Required for finding location:

1. Absolute Frequency SSB: Represents centre frequency of SSB

2. Frequency Band List: Represents the total Frequency BW

3. Absolute Frequency Point A: Represents common Reference Point A, centre frequency of 0th subcarrier of RB0

4. Subcarrier Spacing: Represents Subcarrier Spacing

5. Carrier Bandwidth: BW in which SSB is located

6. Resource Value Indicator: The location i.e., starting position and the bandwidth of a BWP is specified in RRC parameter specified as RVI

With these above 6 parameters we can find location of frequency domain of SSB in 5GNR

Note: Absolute Frequency SSB and Absolute Frequency Point A are given in NR-ARFCN Format

According to 3GPP 38.101 Specs we have to convert ARFCN format to Frequency Range
